Who Studies EcoJustice Education?
Our students come from a wide range of interests and fields, including ecological and social justice non-profit organizations, health and social work professions, business, K-12 education, special education, and higher education. We work with people who are committed to education as an ethical endeavor that both includes and is broader than K-12 schools.
What Can I Do with this Degree?
Some graduates of EcoJustice Education and Social Foundations have come to the degree and continue to work as K-12 teachers, nurses and nurse educators, and social workers. Others enter PhD programs in education, sociology, cultural studies and other social science and humanities fields. Still others have become prison advocates, housing and welfare rights specialists, and food justice activists, even business managers. They are artists, musicians, teachers, parents, students, and community activists who care deeply about social and ecological justice.
How Are Courses Offered?
We offer this program in several different formats: fully online, hybrid, or a combination of online and face-to-face. Our goal is to be as flexible with what students need as possible. We also work with students to get out in their communities as much as possible, both as part of the course work, and to encourage our students to stay active around issues of sustainability and social justice locally and regionally.
What Students Say About Studying EcoJustice Education
“EcoJustice stimulates deep questioning, inspires vision and commitment to a radical alternative, but most importantly for me, this community of learners, scholars, and activists has built a home that lets me belong. I am happy to find truth amidst the systemic lies, grateful to find solidarity in my disgust, and excited to imagine what is possible and rebuild a culture that is capable of valuing and sustaining all forms of life.” Erin Stanley, social worker, UM Hospital
